What are crickets?

A cricket is an insect with the Latin name Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa, colloquially also called earth cricket or mole cricket, they mainly occur in peat soils and dune areas. Crickets have strong forelimbs that allow them to dig well. These insects are mainly active at night and like to eat animals but also vegetable substances such as leaves and roots. Crickets dig tunnels just underground, their tunnels and nests in the ground cause damage to gardens because they gnaw off plant roots while digging, causing the plants to fall away. Crickets can be a real pest in your vegetable garden because they can find a lot of food there, fortunately they can be easily controlled with the steinernema carpocapsae nematodes.
